What the program is about

Within the Africa Commercial Trainee Program, you will unlock your full potential while contributing to ADM’s mission of meeting the nutritional and agricultural challenges of today and tomorrow.

This two-year rotational program is designed to develop the next generation of commercial leaders across Africa. You will gain exposure to a broad range of commercial activities, including sales, marketing, customer relationship management, logistics, market analysis, business development, and other commercial disciplines relevant to your business unit and rotation.

During the two-year program, you will complete two one-year rotations with exposure to different African countries and business units, giving you broad exposure to ADM’s operations, customers, products, and supply chains. You will work on meaningful projects, collaborate with experienced commercial professionals, and build a strong understanding of agricultural commodity markets and customer needs.

You will be supported by dedicated mentors and local leadership teams throughout your journey, helping you accelerate your professional development while building an international network within ADM.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be well-positioned for future careers in Trading, Commercial Management, Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Origination, or other commercial functions across ADM.

What you will do

  • Gain exposure to agricultural commodity markets, commercial operations, and customer-facing activities across Africa.
  • Support trading, sales, marketing, and business development teams in executing commercial strategies.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze market trends, supply and demand dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscapes.
  • Participate in pricing, contract management, logistics coordination, and risk management activities.
  • Work on strategic projects and present recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Learn about ADM’s value chain, products, operations, and commercial processes.
  • Collaborate with teams across different countries, business units, and functions.
  • Contribute to identifying growth opportunities and delivering value to customers.

What will make you successful

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of professional experience.
  • Strong interest in commercial business, sales, marketing, customer engagement, market analysis, and the food, nutrition or agricultural industries.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and eager to learn.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional African or international languages are highly valued.
  • International, multicultural, or cross-cultural experience is considered an advantage.
  • Passion for building a long-term career across Africa, with the willingness and flexibility to relocate between different African countries during the program.
